Inspiration for the Next Novel in My Mystery Series

The fourth book in my mystery novel series may be set in Missouri, as I mentioned in an earlier post. Some of my scenes my take place in a historical society’s village that is visited by tourists, school groups, and locals. While we have a historical society here that is in the process of creating a village like the one in my book, I used as my model an already-built one that my family visited a few years ago in another U.S. state.

I wanted to share with you some photos that I took while visiting that historical village. I loved the place so much because it gave not only a glimpse of how people lived in the past, but also inspired me.

  • Cool. Maybe put a similar pictorial together on Pinterest if you haven't already. Some of our author friends use that site to map out and visualize their ideas and share their vision with other authors.

  • Pinterest might be a site you would really like Susan because looking at your site and facebook posts you have lots of great pictures - and at the London Book Fair last year, in one of the social media seminars, it was raised as being a valuable tool by people working in the publishing industry. I was looking through to see if I had photos I took when I was in Greece that inspired me in some of the scenes in 'Georgina's Family' - it's on my to do list .....
My favourite photo is the one of the old, run-down, house - I can imagine what it looked like in its time.

  • Loved the photos, I take them to help me with plots and inspiration and these are gorgeous. I think your books sounds wonderful, when is it ready? Enjoyed your blog. Good luck.

  • The angle of your camera lens always seems to show the most interesting side of your subject, as I first found in your fascinating Facebook scenes, so I very much look forward to reading of the scenes and settings which will lend plausibility to the characters who flesh out your forthcoming mystery novel.
The old-fashioned gas lamps, terraces raised on stilts and the dinky horse-drawn carriage, together with the simple outdoor water pump all tell of generations now sadly passed and yet who once lived perhaps closer to nature than some of us who are daily confronted by the blast of the media and all the white noise it brings in its wake.
Please let me know when this title is available so that I can buy a copy. I'm sure I'll want to recommend your work, Susan. Best wishes, Raymond Nickford

  • Thanks so much for popping back again Susan and liking my recent blogs. I am enjoying yours now end. We seem to do things in a similar way, though I have no idea what Pinterest is. I just have albums on my facebook pages with my visual notes. Good luck with everything.

    • Thanks, Jane. I'm just getting started on Pinterest. I don't entirely understand the site, yet.

      • I have not seen Pinterest yet and have no idea what it is for, let me know how you get on. I'll pop and look. :)
