Heather Davis

I’d like to introduce you to the twenty-ninth interviewee in my ‘Meet the Author’ series. She is Heather Smith Davis.

QUESTION: Hi, Heather! Welcome to Susan Finlay Writes blog site. Can you tell us a bit about your background as a writer?

ANSWER: I have always loved to write. I started my first book in the fourth grade. It was a mystery. I got as far as writing the table of contents before I spooked myself and never picked up the book again!

QUESTION: Your books were published by Buzz Books USA. Your first is an ebook, written after a trip to New York City to appear on the Dr. Oz show. It’s called “TMI Mom Bites the Big Apple”. Can you tell us more?

ANSWER: I was in NYC for 24 hours all by myself with no schedule and agenda. I was living life to the fullest in the big city and had a million thoughts running through my head. I texted my editor and publisher and said, “This would be a great ebook,” and they said do it. So, I wrote about my adventures on the plane ride back to Tulsa.

QUESTION: Your second book, “TMI Mom Oversharing My Life”, was published by Buzz Books in March, 2013? How did that book come about? How many more books do you have planned for the series?

ANSWER: I wanted to write humor. I fully believe that life is a fun and funny ride and laughing through it is necessary for survival. So, I started writing short essays about mothehood, marriage, life in general, and wrote my first book. I usually leave no detail unturned, so I earned the title of TMI (too much information) Mom.

QUESTION: You are a columnist for the “Funny Not Slutty” humor website. Can you tell us more about the website? How many columnists do they have? What kind of columns do you write?

ANSWER: At FunnyNotSlutty.com, I write their food column, “Eat This: Real Food Real Funny.” I wanted to call it “Crap My Kids Won’t Eat” since they are rearlly picky eaters, but that was vetoed. They’ve got dozens of very funny columnists that write/vlog/sing very funny stuff.

QUESTION: Your website says that you appeared on national television on a syndicated talk show in September, 2012. Can you tell us more about it?

ANSWER: I was contacted by the Dr. Oz show to be on his episode, “The Craziest, No-Shame, Overshares of all time.” My segment was about moms who overshare (or share too much information) on the internet. They googled TMI Mom and my book and my blog popped up. They followed me for a while, found me to be funny and liked my reason for oversharing, which isn’t for shock or humor. It’s to build a community of moms who don’t feel so alone when silly things happen to them as a momma.

QUESTION: What has your experience with your publisher been like? Is it everything you’d hoped for?

ANSWER: My publisher is a great ball of fire! They have fabulous cover designs and great marketing ideas. My editor is super fabulous. It’s been amazing.

QUESTION: You do a lot of reading/book signing events in Oklahoma. What has that been like? Will you be doing similar events in other states?

ANSWER: I have events scheduled in Arkansas and Texas as well. It’s always great to meet with people who relate to my stories. And it’s always fantastic to hear someone say they laughed outloud when reading one of my books.

QUESTION: What is your favorite or least favorite part of writing?

ANSWER: My favorite is the simple power of the pen (or keyboard … ). To know that my words can make a difference and can be strong is simply amazing. My least favorite part of writing is that fact that there’s never enough time.

QUESTION: If you could meet any book character, who would it be, and what would you do with them?

ANSWER: Not so much a book character, but an author—Celia Rivenbark. She also writes humor and I would love to just sit down, have a nice dinner with her and talk shop.

QUESTION: Please list any websites or social media links for yourself or your book. Thanks!
